A Milestone Born on June 14, 2013

On June 14, 2013, the Volkswagen Golf reached a milestone that few vehicles in automotive history have ever approached. At the company’s flagship Wolfsburg plant, surrounded by engineers, executives, and assembly‑line workers, the 30,000,000th Golf rolled proudly into the spotlight.

The car — a Golf TDI BlueMotion — symbolized nearly four decades of engineering evolution, customer loyalty, and global success. It wasn’t just another vehicle leaving the line; it was a testament to the Golf’s status as Europe’s best‑selling car of all time.

A Car That Defined Generations

Since its debut in 1974, the Golf has been Volkswagen’s answer to changing times. Each generation brought new technology, new design language, and new expectations for what a compact car could be.

By 2013, the Golf had become:

  • A global icon sold in more than 120 countries
  • A benchmark for hatchback design
  • A leader in efficiency, safety, and everyday practicality

The 30‑millionth model represented the culmination of this legacy — and the promise of more to come.

Why the 30‑Millionth Golf Mattered

The milestone wasn’t just about production numbers. It marked:

  • Volkswagen’s manufacturing strength, with Wolfsburg remaining one of the largest auto plants in the world
  • The success of the Golf Mk7, which had just launched and was already winning awards
  • A moment of pride for the thousands of workers who helped build the Golf’s reputation

On the same day, Volkswagen also accepted the 2013 Car of the Year award for the Golf — a fitting honor for a model that had just crossed a historic threshold.

The Milestone Car: Golf TDI BlueMotion

The 30‑millionth Golf wasn’t chosen at random. Volkswagen selected a TDI BlueMotion model to highlight the brand’s commitment to efficiency and innovation.

Key features included:

  • A highly efficient diesel engine
  • Fuel consumption as low as 3.2 L/100 km (≈88 mpg)
  • Aerodynamic refinements and lightweight engineering

It represented the cutting edge of VW’s technology at the time — a perfect ambassador for the milestone.

A Legacy Still Growing

Today, the Golf continues to evolve, with millions more produced since that landmark day. But June 14, 2013 remains a defining moment — a celebration of the people, the engineering, and the global community that made the Golf a legend.

For Volkswagen fans, it’s a reminder of why the Golf isn’t just a car. It’s a story — one still being written.

International VW Bus Day

June 2nd

Every year on June 2nd, Volkswagen enthusiasts around the world celebrate International VW Bus Day, honoring one of the most recognizable and beloved vehicles ever built—the Volkswagen Type 2, better known as the VW Bus.

Since its introduction in 1950, the VW Bus has become much more than a mode of transportation. It has served as a family camper, a beach cruiser, a road-trip companion, a business vehicle, and a symbol of freedom, adventure, and community. From the surf culture of California to campgrounds and car shows across America, the VW Bus has inspired generations of owners to embrace the journey as much as the destination.

What makes the VW Bus so special isn’t just its iconic design. It’s the memories created along the way. Whether it’s a cross-country road trip, a weekend campout, a parade, or simply gathering with friends under a canopy beside a beloved Bus, these vehicles have a unique way of bringing people together.

For Volkswagen enthusiasts, the Bus represents a lifestyle built on friendship, exploration, and a love for the open road. Every dent tells a story. Every sticker marks an adventure. Every Bus has its own personality and history.

Today, we celebrate all VW Buses—from pristine restorations to well-loved travelers still making memories every day. We honor the owners, clubs, and communities that keep the spirit alive and continue sharing the joy that only a Volkswagen Bus can bring.

So wherever you are this June 2nd, take a moment to appreciate these rolling icons of happiness. Fire up the engine, wave to a fellow VW enthusiast, and remember:

Life is better when you’re riding in a VW Bus.

Happy International VW Bus Day!

— From the Volkswagen community to enthusiasts everywhere, may your roads be scenic, your campsites welcoming, and your adventures endless.

This is NOT a club affiliated tech session. This is a VW Community tech session. EVERYONE IS INVITED.

Greetings Vdubbers,

The May Tech Session will be this Saturday, the 9th, starting at 10 AM.

Yes, there’s a good chance of rain, but unless it’s raining sideways, “the show must go on”.

You never know what you’re gonna get on the Gulf Coast!  The weather for Bugs on the Bayou was very “iffy” towards the weekend, and yes it rained on Friday night, but the clouds broke on Saturday morning and the rest of the show weekend was absolutely beautiful!  Moral of the story…don’t let the forecast keep you from having FUN with your Vdub!

Tech Session
Saturday, May 9th, 10:00 am
2515 Longleaf Drive

Come join us to do some wrenching on you Vdub, and eat some pizza!! Donations requested for pizza.

Hope to see you Saturday, rain or shine!
